Haircuts for Hope Project

Background and Structure: The Haircuts for Hope Project is an initiative by Skoolie Foundation designed to provide free haircuts and personal grooming services to homeless and unhomed individuals. Utilizing the Empowerment Mobile Shower Bus and the Mobile Command Unit Outreach Bus, the project partners with local libraries, churches, and community centers to offer these services. The goal is to boost the self-esteem and morale of individuals by giving them a fresh look and a renewed sense of hope.


Goals and Objectives:

Goal: Restore dignity and confidence to individuals in need through personal grooming and haircuts.

Objectives:

  • Provide free showers, shampoos, and haircuts to individuals in high-need areas.
  • Foster partnerships with local libraries, churches, and community centers for service delivery.
  • Engage volunteer barbers and hair stylists to offer their skills and time.

Target Population:

  • Homeless and unhomed individuals in the community.
  • Individuals experiencing financial hardship and unable to afford personal grooming services.


Expected Outcomes:

  • Increased self-esteem and morale among participants.
  • Enhanced personal hygiene and appearance.
  • Strengthened community connections and support networks.


Service Delivery:

  • Services will be delivered at partnered locations, including public libraries, churches, and community centers.
  • The Mobile Shower Bus and Mobile Command Unit will be set up at these locations to provide showers and haircuts.
  • Volunteer barbers and hair stylists will offer haircuts and grooming services after individuals have had a shower and shampoo.

  • Mobile units equipped with shower facilities and grooming stations.
  • Partnerships with local organizations to provide convenient and accessible service locations.
  • Engagement of skilled volunteer barbers and hair stylists to deliver high-quality services.


Operational Plan:

  • Schedule regular visits to partnered locations for service delivery.
  • Ensure the Mobile Shower Bus and Mobile Command Unit are equipped and maintained for operations.
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteer barbers and hair stylists to provide consistent services.


Partnerships:

  • Agreements with local libraries, churches, and community centers to host service events.
  • Collaboration with community organizations to reach individuals in need and provide referrals.
  • Engagement with local businesses and donors to support the project with supplies and funding.


Evaluation and Monitoring:

  • Regular reporting to COMMERCE on service delivery and impact.
  • Collection of feedback from participants to assess the effectiveness and satisfaction with services.
  • Monitoring the number of individuals served and the frequency of service delivery to ensure coverage and accessibility.
