The Skoolie Hygiene Haven brings free showers, haircuts, and hygiene essentials to homeless neighbors across Pierce, Thurston & Spokane, WA. Donate or volunteer. unit, bringing these dignity-restoring services directly to the people who need them across Pierce, Thurston, and Spokane Counties.
What we provide:
At Skoolie Hygiene Haven, we've embarked on a transformative mission to bring dignity, hygiene, and hope to those experiencing homelessness. Additionally we are dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive space for all. Our initiative centers around a unique concept: a mobile sanctuary on wheels, known as the Skoolie Hygiene Haven.
Why it matters: Hygiene isn't a luxury — it's a foundation. A shower and a fresh start restore the dignity that makes everything else possible: a job, housing, healthcare, hope.
In 2025, we documented more than 1,000 individual shower services and over 500 free haircuts — strengthened by our acquisition of Nurture Hope, a Thurston County shower program with a five-year legacy of 5,000+ showers given.
Where we serve: Pierce County (Puyallup, Tacoma), Thurston County (Olympia, Lacey), and Spokane County.
The Skoolie Hygiene Haven is more than a vehicle; it's a symbol of compassion, a beacon of hope, and a tangible step toward creating a more inclusive and caring community.
Join us on this journey as we redefine dignity on wheels.
Help us restore dignity:

At the Skoolie Foundation, we know that something as simple as a shower can be life-changing. Our Hope Shower Bus and Empowerment Bus bring mobile hygiene services directly into the community, offering private showers, hygiene kits, clean clothing, and safe changing areas for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
But these buses are more than hygiene units—they are gateways to hope. Each visit connects guests with supportive services, employment pathways, and community resources that help them move toward stability. By restoring dignity and providing compassionate care, our shower programs give people more than a clean start—they offer the confidence to take the next step forward.

The Mobile Command Unit is a versatile, fully-equipped bus designed to serve as the operational center for Skoolie Foundation's outreach and emergency response efforts. It provides a centralized location for coordinating services, conducting community outreach, and offering immediate assistance to those in need. The unit is outfitted with communication tools, supplies, and space for staff to work, making it an essential asset for managing large-scale events, disaster response, and community support initiatives. This mobile hub allows the Skoolie Foundation to efficiently deploy resources and support throughout the community.

Haircuts for Hope is a Skoolie Foundation initiative that provides free haircuts to individuals in need, aiming to restore dignity and confidence through a fresh look. Utilizing the Empowerment Bus or Mobile Command Unit, this program partners with local libraries, churches, and other community spaces to offer services in a welcoming environment. Volunteer barbers and hairstylists donate their time and skills, ensuring that participants leave not only with a new haircut but also with a renewed sense of self-worth. This program is a key component of Skoolie's broader mission to uplift and empower the community.

The Skoolie Mobile Laundry facility is equipped with six washer and dryer units, powered by onboard generators, allowing for 100% mobility. This service brings laundry facilities directly to encampments, providing those experiencing homelessness with the essential resource of clean clothing, rather than just distributing new clothes. By offering mobile laundry services, Skoolie Foundation aims to restore dignity and improve hygiene in underserved communities, addressing a critical yet often overlooked need. This initiative helps reduce waste while fostering self-sufficiency.

Skoolie Hygiene Havens is a comprehensive program designed to provide mobile shower stations with the purpose of offering showers to create a sense of rejuvenation, dignity, and purpose for individuals experiencing homelessness. Originally created to combat the high levels of danger faced by women and LGBTQ members in our society who are experiencing housing issues, our program prioritizes security, individuality, and sanctuary for all in need.
Here's a detailed breakdown of our program

The primary purpose of Skoolie Hygiene Havens is to offer showers as a means of restoring dignity and providing a sense of rejuvenation and purpose to individuals facing homelessness. We aim to create a safe and inclusive space for all, with a particular focus on addressing the safety concerns of women and LGBTQ members.

When organizing events in homeless camps with our hygiene havens, we prioritize creating a full-service experience. This includes bringing in barbers and hair stylists to provide grooming services, such as haircuts and styling, to enhance the individuals' sense of personality and self-worth.

In addition to showers, we also provide fresh clothing to individuals after they come out of the shower. This adds to the feeling of cleanliness and helps boost their confidence and self-esteem.

Our volunteers extend their support to animals as well, providing care and assistance as needed.

Our program prioritizes the safety and well-being of all participants. We ensure that proper security measures are in place, and we provide a safe environment for individuals to access our services without fear or discrimination.

Overall, Skoolie Hygiene Havens is committed to providing comprehensive support and resources to individuals experiencing homelessness, with a focus on promoting dignity, security, and inclusivity for all. Through our mobile shower stations and full-service events, we strive to make a positive impact on the lives of those in need within our community.

As of the start of 2024, our organization received a generous donation of a bus from Bowers Plumbing, courtesy of Joe Bowers, the owner. Impressed by our vision and mission, Joe Bowers has not only donated the bus but also joined our board. His expertise and commitment ensure that the plumbing aspect of all our builds meets safety standards, adheres to codes, and is built to last for years to come. We are grateful for his dedication and support in advancing our mission to serve the community.

Our Marketing committee has embraced the stunning design crafted for us by Justin Ranton of blkhol design studios. From our initial introduction, Justin's passion for our cause was evident, prompting him to offer his professional design services. Little did we know, he would soon become an integral part of our Marketing committee, serving as the go-to person for all our marketing needs. Justin's expertise has elevated our organization to new heights, and we are immensely grateful for his design input. Without further ado, we proudly present this design layout, which will soon adorn our Empowerment bus and represent our mission in the community over the coming months.
The bus is designed to be self-contained, ensuring it can operate independently without relying on external resources.
We've prioritized environmental sustainability by incorporating eco-friendly features such as solar power and instant water heaters.
Our bus features four separate shower stalls, each securely enclosed to provide privacy and security to users.
Unique Themed Approach:
Each shower stall is uniquely themed to cater to different needs and demographics.
One stall pays tribute to veterans with an interior design representing all branches of the military.
Another stall is family-oriented, equipped with a changing station and additional amenities suitable for family use.
A third stall is ADA compliant, featuring a ramp and safety grab bars to ensure accessibility.
The final stall serves as a platform for messages of hope and encouragement, contributed by everyone involved in the build.
Despite its complexity, the bus is designed with flexibility in mind, allowing it to adapt to various locations and situations.
Onboard water tanks enable the bus to travel virtually anywhere, ensuring access to water even in remote areas.
All water used is self-contained and recycled, with a system for pumping water from temporary tanks to onboard greywater housing tanks.
The integration of instant water heaters and solar power enhances its eco-friendliness while keeping overall build costs low.

Our Skoolie Hygiene Havens will give support to our most vulnerable community in need. As a mobile showering station we can pull into a location with hundred's of gallons of fresh water on board ready to serve our most vulnerable in our community.
We are currently projecting the start to build date for our 1st to be in January of 2025. We need to secure funding before we can begin
